How this works

Warmly lets you leave a short, anonymous message somewhere in the world, for whoever turns up there next.

Not a friend. Not a follower. A stranger who happens to walk past the same spot as you, one day soon.

Droping some nice

Stand somewhere. Write something short and kind. Drop it.

That's it. Your words stay at that spot, waiting.

Keep it short, in English, and keep it nice. There's a limit of 100 characters, which is on purpose. It's a moment, not a letter.

Finding some nice

You don't go looking. It finds you.

When you walk near a spot where someone has left something, your phone quietly tells you. Open it and read it. Only you will ever see it, and once you've read it, it's gone.

If it made you smile, tap the heart. Whoever left it gets a small notification saying someone liked what they wrote. That's the only thing that ever travels back.

Nothing's happening

Two things make Warmly feel broken when it isn't.

A drop takes an hour to go live. So that you've walked away before anyone can find it, and nobody can work out it was you.

You have to actually be somewhere. There's no map to browse and no feed to scroll. You get some nice by going about your day and happening to be in the right place.

There's also a limit of one or two messages a day, at most. Warmly is meant to be a small surprise, not a stream of them.

And Warmly is new. There may not be anything near you yet. Leaving something is the best way to change that.

No names, no profiles

Warmly doesn't know who you are. There's no account, no username, no email address, no password.

You can't reply to a message, and nobody can reply to you. There's no way to find out who left something, and no way for anyone to find you.

If you delete the app, Warmly forgets you completely. Your identity was only ever on your phone, and it goes with it. Anything you've already left will still be delivered, but you won't be able to see it in your drops any more.

Keeping it nice

Every drop is checked automatically before it's made available to anyone. Anything hateful, abusive, sexual or unpleasant doesn't go anywhere.

Automated checks aren't perfect. If something reaches you that shouldn't have, tap the flag on the message. Reports are read and acted on within 24 hours, and people who abuse Warmly are blocked from using it.

Warmly is for people aged 18 and over.

Location and notifications

Warmly needs your location set to Always. That's how your phone notices you've arrived somewhere a message is waiting, even when the app is closed. Without it, nothing arrives.

It also needs notifications, so it can tell you when something turns up, and when someone likes what you left.

Both of these can be changed in iOS Settings, but Warmly stops working without them.

Please be sensible

Warmly has no idea whether a place is safe, public, or somewhere you should be. Don't go anywhere you wouldn't otherwise go, don't trespass, and don't use your phone while you're driving or crossing the road.

No message is worth it.
